Here’s a riddle for you - I have an unique foliage of wavy-edged leaves which resemble the ears of an elephant. Who Am I? I am the Alocasia Amazonica ‘Polly’ Plant, commonly known as the “Elephant Ear Plant”. Give your indoor spaces a tropical look with me.

An Earful Of Benefits

Known for its mesmerizing foliage of dark green wavy-edged leaves with silvery stripes, the Alocasia Amazonica ‘Polly’ Plant is a compact indoor plant. It acts as a mood booster. It reduces stress and fatigue, thereby uplifting the mood. Its stunning foliage of leaves can give a tropical touch to your interiors.

Alocasia Amazonica ‘Polly’ does well in warm and humid environments. It requires bright indirect sunlight to grow. The watering routine of Polly should be once a week in summer whereas, in winter, it should be watered when the topsoil is dry to 2-3 inches down.  Alocasia 'Polly' should be repotted every 2-3 years to ensure healthier growth.

The Alocasia Amazonica ‘Polly’ Plant can suffer damage to its leaves and roots due to fungal, bacterial, or viral infections. On a minor level, these infections can be treated by spraying neem oil on the leaves. However, it is advised to use insecticides and fungicides to prevent such infections. Ficus Elastica is toxic to pets when ingested. If you come in contact with the white sap from the leaves, ensure that you wash it off immediately.

Self Watering

The way self-watering pots work is a phenomenon known as “capillary action,” or “wicking.”  They use sub-irrigation to deliver water directly to plant roots with the help of a water reservoir at the bottom of the planter, enabling the plant to drink at its own pace.
